Missions

From Jeremy and Darlene Cons - South Africa

We left Odiham in January 2002 with our two boys to live in Cape Town South Africa. We did not know what lay ahead of us and we were not even sure we would be allowed to live in the country. There were no certainties ahead but we were trusting God.

God had birthed in us a heart for the poor and we felt the need to be trained and equipped to serve them well. We became part of Jubilee Community church which is a very cross cultural church where we have many tribes and nations represented. We came to learn from Angela Kemm who had been working in the townships for 20 years often in very dangerous situations. Angela spent many hours training us and then releasing us to go and make mistakes and then lovingly teaching into those mistakes to help us to learn. We led folk to Jesus and saw many leave their past behind. We established two life groups and have since raised up leaders from the community to lead these groups. We are very much in the background now allowing the leaders to lead. We visit them regularly and encourage them and bring teaching to them. During these years we have seen many folk completely transformed by the power of God whose lives have turned around from such darkness and hopelessness to living victorious lives filled with hope and peace.

Jubilee have many social ministries which reach out to the broken and disadvantaged. They include an alcohol and drug rehab for men, a centre for women in crisis pregnancy, a prison ministry, a schools work which encourages students to make healthy choices regarding relationships, a health centre, an adult literacy course, a sewing and beading project and a support group for unemployed folk. We oversee each of these ministries bringing encouragement, support and pastoral care to the leaders.

It has been a privilege to live in this beautiful country and to be accepted and loved by its people. We have seen God provide for us in amazing ways and we marvel at the things He has taught us and the miracles we have witnessed over these years. We serve an awesome God.
