What to expect when you visit us
It can be unnerving coming along to a new church for the first time, so here are some answers to some questions you may have
What will the service be like?
Sung Worship
During our service the worship band will lead us in a number of songs in worship to God. We sing a range of songs, from old hymns to contemporary Christian music. Regardless of your singing ability, we sing to worship Jesus and so you are most welcome to sing along. During our time of sung worship there are often spontaneous contributions given from among the congregation. Sometimes these are just a Bible verse, sometimes a prophecy, sometimes a tongue and interpretation.
Preaching
We believe that the Word of God has the power to change lives. Therefore, we want to make preaching the Bible a priority in our services. Typically, one of the pastors will preach for about 30 minutes, showing what the Bible means in its context and how we can apply it to our daily lives.
Communion
We share bread and wine together every week, though in alternating venues – meaning each congregation shares communion every two weeks. Typically, one of the leaders will lead communion after the sermon and will invite everyone who knows the Lord to come up and take a bit of bread and a small cup of wine. Once everyone has them, we eat and drink.
The Lord Jesus himself instituted this meal the night before he died and gives it to us as a way to participate in his death as one body together.
What is there for my kids/teenagers?
We believe that God uses people of all ages and stages and so we want to make church a place that is accessible to all. For babies and small children, we have a ‘creche’ space in the main hall where parents are welcome to sit or let their children play. Don’t worry about noisy children, it’s part of life and we’re not bothered by it. There will be no ‘shushers’.
For slightly older kids, our kids group (Lighthouse – ages 3-11) runs during the sermon where kids can play and learn something at a level appropriate to them. If you’re coming to Church Crookham, we have ‘Lighthouse early’ which runs from 9:30am, before the service starts.
We invite teenagers to stay in the main sunday service, but we have a Sunday Youth group that runs from 7:15-8:45 pm for them where we play some games and look at a relevant issue or bible topic.
What should I wear?
I’m new. Will there be anyone there to make me feel welcome?
Yes absolutely! We have a wonderful welcome team who will introduce themselves to you and offer you a welcome pack, which will give you all the information you need if you want to get to know us better. As well as this, we’re a very friendly bunch who would love to chat to you after the service over a drink.
